“A man may dream…”

An AsianMasala Set
======

Nothing has exerted an equal fascination on the Western imagination (especially during Romanticism time period) as the institution of the harem, and it has been a central theme of Orientalism in arts for a long time.

But as so often, origin and modern (Western) perception are going ways apart.

So let’s take a short travel into history: The Turkish word “harem” derives from the arabic Word haram – ‘forbidden place; sacrosanct, sanctum’ – but the system was common, more or less, to most ancient Oriental communities, especially where polygyny was permitted. The ‘harem’ does not refer to a sanctuary for the wives of a polygynous person but is simply a resting quarters for women. Female seclusion being emphasized to the extent that any unlawful breaking into that privacy is haram, “forbidden”.

It is being more commonly acknowledged today that the purpose of harems during the Ottoman Empire was for the royal upbringing of the future wives of noble and royal men. These women would be educated so that they were ready to appear in public as a royal wife.

Of course, a man may dream – so nowadays a harem is often imagined as many sensual young women lying around pools with oiled bodies, with the sole purpose of pleasing the powerful man to whom they had given themselves. Much of this has been insinuated through art and literature from that period, usually portraying groups of attractive women lounging around a man as their center of attention.

For the creation of this pose set, we’ve picked up the theme as it is presented in art and paintings: It is dedicated to the dreamy charm associated with those pretty girls on silky pillows and rich carpets, and their endevour to gain the Sultan’s attention. So enjoy, you guys, while it lasts ;D

======
-1001 Nights-
PhotoStageAugust 2011
======

’1001 Nights’ photostage was created in hommage to all the amazing architecture of Arabian influenced countries and to complement our asianMasala pose line on a 32x32m footprint. As you would expect, with all the flair you would find in Arabia, Marocco, Tunesia or India’s Rajasthan state. All floors and walls consist of an intricate floral tiles pattern, shiney wood pannels decorates the plattforms and planters and golden hanging lamps can be found at walls and hanging down the center of the building’s glass dome. All windows are given their special charm with diamond gate screens and snake plants line the walls while rich colored satin curtains set the mood for 1001 dreams…

We have included 6 color presets for you to pick from, but beyond those, you can customize different parts of the stage in a rather complex color menu. It allows you to change curtain colors, walls, floor and dome/accent colors all individually to pick your favorite combination :)

To match the theme of desert and sun, the color choices for walls, floor and
accent colors are as follows:

• black,
• white,
• sand,
• brown,
• orange,
• redish-brown,
• vibrant turquoise blue,
• light blue

Curtains can be set to a warm brown, sunny yellow, silky white, sky blue, rich dark blue, vibrant pink, deep red and a charming olive green.

Of course you can open/close the entrance gate, and also turn lights off and on or set ambient light.

As with everything scripted: Make sure you are in a sim that allows for scripts to run!

CONTENT
———-

• (*chanimations Photostage: “1001 Nights” (LP) – 56 PRIMS
• (*chanimations Photostage: “1001 Nights” – 110 PRIMS
• (*chanimations Photostage: “1001 Nights” (highDetail) – 146 PRIMS

• (*chanimations Photostage: “1001 Nights” fountain – 4 PRIMS

The photostage comes (copy/no mod/no transfer) and is color customizable through menu (please see more further down). The menu allows to set permissions who may control it – default on rez is set to “owner”.

STATS
——-

We try to keep our photostages as low-prim as possible – so they are stages, and not replacement for homes and sim-decorations (unless you don’t mind the fact the outside shape is not quite what you expect from a palace of 1001 nights, or you are willing to put the extra work in and build an “outside” around it). Please keep this in mind.

Anyhow, here the stats:

“1001 Nights” Photostage is build on a basis of 32x32m, and has with it’s with the dome approx. 15m height – it is provided in 3 versions, Low-Prim (56 PRIMS), normal (110 PRIMS), and as highly detailed (146 PRIMS) if you got some extra prims to spare. :)

The included fountain has 4 prims, so you can rezz as many or none as you like within the stage.

“Dancing away through 1001 nights…”

======
-RaqsSharqi-
An AsianMasala Set
======

Raqs sharqi, an Arabian term literally translated with “oriental dance”, is the classical Egyptian style of what most people in the West know as “belly dance” which developed during the first half of the 20th century.

(So it really is not Asian, we released in our asianMasala line mainly cause it fits the flavor of those previously released pose-sets best!)

While rooted in traditional dances, it has received influences from all directions and geographic regions and what you see today is in most cases a dynamic fusion of traditional dance, easter and western aspects, cabaret entertainment and artistic expression.

-RaqsSharqi- is dedicated to the playfulness and charm of middle eastern cymbal dance, and contains the following photography props and poses:

10 (20) POSES (no mod/no transfer):
——————————–

• (*raqsSharqi_1
• (*raqsSharqi_1 (cymbals)
• (*raqsSharqi_2
• (*raqsSharqi_2 (cymbals)
• (*raqsSharqi_3

• (*raqsSharqi_10
• (*raqsSharqi_10 (cymbals)

All POSES are static and come with ‘copy’ rights so you can put them into your posestands or make own poseball arrangements. All poses come with pointed fingers for use with the included cymbals, and if you want to use other props or nothing at all, with “relaxed” hand position (try our fans from the FetishCabaret “ShowGirl” set if you want to go more burlesque with these poses, they work really well together with them!)

(Please make sure that your AO or shoes with AO are turned off, as those poses CAN override the finger positions so that the pointed fingers are not displayed!)

And last, to make it easier on photographers who work with models, both a multiPosestand (4 PRIMS) and a multiPoseball (1 PRIM) are included. This way you can freely move your model yourself instead of ‘instructing them’ where to place their avartar.

Both responds to /1 show and /1 hide; posestand changes pose with the arrow buttons, the multiPoseball allows to toggle the poses by using the pageUp/pageDown keys.

PROPS (transfer/modify/no copy)
————————————-

• (*chanimations cymbals (right)
• (*chanimations cymbals (left)
• (*chanimations cymbals correctHold (right)
• (*chanimations cymbals correctHold (left)

The cymbals are not scripted and only photoprops. Two versions are included due to the was SL handles finger animations. The correct way is to hold the cymbals with both thumbs and middle fingers – if you look at the hand from the side, it would be thumb being the lowest with cymbal opening upwards, then middle finger with cymbal opening downwards (so they can be clapped) – next up spread slightly higher would be pointing finger in an upward arched manner, ringfinger slightly higher again, pinki finger being the highest point of the hand gesture.

So in SL there’s two propblems: a) correct positioning is not possible due to inability to animate fingers in SL, and b) for smaller hand sizes it can be difficult to fit the middle finger cymbal in the hand. For that reason, a second version is included where the cymbals are on thumb and index finger – it’s not proper, but makes them more visible in pictures this way.

FURTHER CREDITS:

Because I know already one of you will ask:
• The blue costume and jewelry is by *Deviance* (creator: Surreal LeShelle) and at this point not released yet. I am assuming it will be out at some point during March 2011 – so you’ll need to lick your fingers for it a tiny bit longer still ;-)
• The green costume is to the best of my knowledge a discontinued silk from Solange. (creator: Solange Cerveau)
• Jewelry used with the green is from Zaara.
• The snake comes from ZOOBY’S pet store.

(*chanimations tutorial – ‘DurgaDevi’

This little post-processing tutorial will answer one essential question: How to turn 2 arms into 8! This is the final image we’re going to create:

durga_tutorial_Picture_256x512

And here’s how to do it! Please take note, in the following I’ll use the method of taking pictures in ‘depth mode’ – you can as well take the images in front of a greenscreen or bluescreen as we did in the CabaretBeauty tutorial. Using either of both methods has advantages and disadvantages, always keep that in mind!

I’ll start with advantages for each:

GreenScreen is something that’s portable and you’re not dependent on rezzing anywhere. As well, you have all freedom for a final composition of the picture, as you pick the background yourself.

Depth Mode allows you to use it in any situation (unless your computer crashes on it) – and when it comes to the overlaying work as will be described in the follow, it is extremely forgiving when it comes to edges, as there won’t be any fuzzyness and you don’t need to be as precise with setting things free as you need with greenScreen background – the background colors are all the same on all layers anyhow ;-)

But there’s also Disadvantages for each:

Depth Mode does not display ANY prims that are partially transparent – be it texturewise or prim wise which makes it extremely difficult to catch exact lines of hair for example! (this will not have any bearing on our work with DurgaDevi, luckily, which is why all attachments in this set are full prims so they show in the depth shot ;-) – and for partially missing hair in a cut-out, we’ve covered that with the ‘advantage’ section of depth mode already: all layers are the same anyhow, and the lowest layer has no cropping! )

GreenScreen is a royal pain in the a** to get out of half-transparencies. (like hair fringes!) – if you want to work with a solid background color to use the magic wand, you should pick a color that is close to your final background image that you will put underneath our 8-armed Durga. For example, if you want to put her in a forest, take greenScreen. If you plan to put blue clouded sky or water into the background, rather use a blueScreen. By doing that, the ‘un-clean’ parts in semi-transparent areas of your SL shot won’t be as bright obvious.

And well, here you go!

-DurgaDevi-
An AsianMasala Set
======

Many stories and myths twine around Hindu Gods and Godesses, and whoever you will ask, there is a little differing detail here or there, or a name changed, or a few more colors added to the story – all the same will be though that there is a divine feminine force en par to each of the masculine powers. One of them being Durga, who represents the warrior aspect of the Divine Mother. Proudly she rides her mount, sometimes shown as a tiger, sometimes as a lion.

-DurgaDevi- is dedicated to the colorful stories of Indian Mythology, and contains the following photography props and poses:

4 POSES (no mod/no transfer):
——————————–

• (*durga (1)
• (*durga (2)
• (*durga (3)
• (*durga (4)

All POSES are static and come with ‘copy’ rights so you can put them into your posestands or make own poseball arrangements. To be able to achieve the 8 armed effect which we’ll explain in our tutorial, these 4 poses are equal in their center and vary only in the hand/arm positioning.

The pack includes the poses as single animations and they are included with a pose-engine in saddle of the tiger.

And last, to make it easier on photographers who work with models, a multiPoseball is included. This way you can freely move your model yourself instead of ‘instructing them’ where to place their avartar. The multiPoseball responds to /1 show and /1 hide and allows to toggle the poses by using the pageUp/pageDown keys.

ADJUSTMENT OF POSES:
————————–
The TigerSaddle is your poseballs. On first sit please note the chatmessage it gives you – as well, a menu pops up allowing you to pick which pose you’d like to start with. After that, you only click the saddle again, and you’ll receive the menu to change between the poses.

To meet all different avartar sizes, an easy and intuitively to use adjustment-menu allows you to move the positioning of your avartar – height, rotation, everything! When you sit, speak /1a in open channel for the adjustment menu (it will only work for the avatar sitting on it). ‘Postion’ will allow you to move your avartar more forward, backwards, left or right (X and Y axis) and of course up and down (Z axis), if needed ‘Rotation’ menu gives you more options.

The script runs in MONO and remembers the avartar custom settings of up to 100 most frequent users who adjusted their positions as long as the tiger stays rezzed and the scripts are not reset. Unfortunately it cannot keep the positions when picked up into inventory and will rez back on default settings – but since the adjustment is easy and quick, this shouldn’t be a problem!

PROPS (detailed info to each after listing):
———————————————–

High and Low-prim version of the tiger is included:
• (*chanimations – Durga’s Tiger (no mod/no transfer) – 131prims
• (*chanimations – Durga’s Tiger (LP) (no mod/no transfer) – 84prims

(transfer/no mod/no copy) for all following:
——————————
• (*Durga FlowerMala (chest)
• (*BraceletBangles (left forearm)
• (*BraceletBangles (right forearm)
• (*durga(1) – ConchShell (left hand)
• (*durga(2) – Bow&Arrow (left hand)
• (*durga(2) – Scimitar (right hand)
• (*durga(3) – LotusFlower (left hand)
• (*durga(3) – Trident (right hand)
• (*durga(4) – Chakram (right hand)
• (*durga(4) – GoldenMace (left hand)

While the tiger has to stay with its owner, all the attachments come with ‘transfer’ setting so you can pass them to the model – or if you’re unsure they’ll give them back to you, rezz them instead and position them (but keep in mind, rezzing will need a lot of free prims on your land).

The ‘weapons’ are non-scripted and only for decorative purpose, only the Chakra has a particle script in it, which you can turn off and on by clicking on the attachment – it rezzes with particles by default.

Keep the /1a chat command in mind, in case your avatar floats above the saddle or is sunk into the tiger!

There’s no need to use the items in this specific order if you prefer a different set-up for your shot!

If you would like to read more about Durga and the stories surrounding her, a good start is the wiki at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Durga – and I am sure you can find another 3 million different stories by browsing the web ;-)))

BAD SCULPTIE RENDERING?
—————————-
If you have problems with sculpties seeming rough edged and not properly rezzing – go to Advanced Menu (if it doesn’t show on the top bar, press CTRL-ALT-SHIFT-D to show it), Debug Setting… – type ‘RenderVolumeLODFactor’ (without quotes) and set it to 4.000. It will take a short moment and your sculpties will render smoother when looking at them from a distance! Search the Wiki if you want more info about the RenderVolumeLODFactor.

UPDATES:
———-
The tiger includes an update script which will check for free upgrades when it is rezzed – to not loose the information of your adjusted poses through resetting/rezzing, you can call for the update manually by typing “/12update” (without quotes) in open chat. (You will find information in our store or the discussions of our flickr group whenever an item is updated.)

And as with everything scripted: Make sure you are in a sim that allows for scripts to run!

That’s all you need to know, so now show others the grace of Asian performance dance!

And as always – in the following all the detailed listing and important information about this set of photography props and poses:

4 POSES (no mod/no transfer):
——————————–

• (*pekingOpera

The pack includes the poses as single animations and in a multiPoseball
which responds to /1 show and /1 hide and allows to toggle the
poses by using the pageUp/pageDown keys.

• (*PekingOpera – FingerOrnament – HANDSIZE 10 (left) (no modify!)
• (*PekingOpera – RibbonBracelet (forearm right)

———————————-
• (all the above listed in COPY and NO TRANSFER)
• !dM “PekingOpera” JewelryHair (copy/no transfer)
• (*chanimations pekingOpera skin (copy/no mod/no transfer)

First and foremost:
The size of the finger ornaments CANNOT be changed – you have to be able to mod your shape and change your handsize to 10. (Menu: Edit -> Appearance -> Torso -> Hand Size)
With the alignment of the very detailed build there is no room for much size difference, rotation or different placement. As well the attachments CANNOT fit in regular relaxed handpose, but they will in combination with the poses.
(There is no larger build offered in the set as once you start makeing the build larger, the result is oversized hands that appear unnaturally out of proportion to the body.)

All body attachments correspond to the color you picked – available colors are CHERRY (soft red), SAFRAN (soft yellow), FRANGIPANI (soft pink), LILAC (soft purple), IRIS (soft blue), MINT (soft green) and LIQUORICE (soft black). (Please see the attached image for an overview on the colors – all other color sets are offered on xStreet as single as well as multicolor pack)

overview_Editions_1024x512

Attachments show as ‘no modify’ in your inventory, but their size can be adjusted through a touch menu – please read included notecard for information regarding the resize script!
As stated before – the finger ornaments are the exception. They really are no mod.

And as with everything scripted: Make sure you are in a sim that allows for scripts to run!

SET SPECIFIC:
—————

Specific for PHOTOGRAPHER edition:
All attachments come with ‘transfer’ setting so you can pass them to your model – or if you’re unsure they’ll give them back to you, rezz them instead and position them – this will require a good amount of free prims, keep this in mind. (Also unless you have deleted the re-size scripts in the attachments, you might want to consider passing the explaination of the functions as well to them to avoid any mistakes!)

• Specific for PERSONAL and EXTENDED edition:
All attachments come in ‘copy’, you can mod the sizes through resize-script. Please ALWAYS make a copy of your items before you mod anything, and when you have the right size for your AV, delete the scripts! How you resizes is explained in the included notecard.
Aside from the pekingOpera JewelryHair, the packs include as well the headpiece, attaching to chin. You can wear this with your own hairstyles – keep in mind that it is by far easier to delete prims out of the hair you want to wear to match the headDress instead of trying to make the head dress fit on all your possible hairstyles.
The base haircolor of the JewelryHair is black, ornaments/flowers matching the color of your set choice.

• Specific for EXTENDED edition:
The pekingOpera skin is a pale skintone to resemble a white powdered body. The facial make-up color is corresponding to your set color. The skin has little cherryblossoms tattoo combined with traditional Chinese symbos on the back of its neck and will stay exclusive only for this set. (and in case you wonder – the symbols say ‘peking opera’ in chinese)

That’s all you need to know, so now show others the grace of Asian performance dance!
